Cruel Swiss Arrivederci Blues: Tuesday, July 5th!

It's hard to be religious when certain people are never incinerated by bolts of lightning. -Bill Watterson, comic strip artist (b. 5 Jul 1958) [Calvin & Hobbes]

Human nature will not flourish, any more than a potato, if it be planted and replanted, for too long a series of generations, in the same worn-out soil. My children have had other birthplaces, and, so far as their fortunes may be within my control, shall strike their roots into unaccustomed earth. -Nathaniel Hawthorne, writer (4 Jul 1804-1864)

Dear Patrick, William Dempster just made a donation in support of your Event. Your team is now one step closer to your fundraising goal!  Hi, Pat, thx so much for the card! Not to worry, the grandmother project is a favourite of mine -- small contribution toward a terrible situation. I'm blown away by your trip reports. Makes me exhausted thinking about it. Yep, I'll be at the Folk Fest. Hope we can figure out a way to get together -- maybe escape early one night for pizza dinner w. Whitneys? Lynn

Hi Patrick, I just set up a Facebook page and want to send you a friend request. What is yours? I tried searching but couldn't find you. I want to donate through your page :) Cheers!

Hi Ciccozzi Chick! Trust you are well after changing your name! Thank you for your wanting to make a donation! to my GranFondo effort. Visitors, Nadia, Jaxon and Nicole were to stay until tomorrow but Nicole just learned that her father-in-law, Bert, is to undergo by-pass surgery on Thursday so she needs to drive back today. Probably have an early lunch and then they will drive back to the coast. Anyway, will see what weather is like at that time as forecast is for rain to start around 11:00 am. Must away as I'm on deck for making toast. Let me know how things go with making a donation. Buona Fortuna with your new personality and thanks again for support. Fondestos from Lady Dar! All the best, former Aquitaine, but still Queen of my heart! Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello Bridge Fiends! It turns out that I am now available to play, if needed, this evening. Unfortunately, our current visitors have had to cut short their stay. Nicole just learned that her father-in-law, Bert, is to undergo by-pass surgery on Thursday so she needs to drive back today. Probably have an early lunch and then they will make for the coast. At any rate, Lady Dar is also available, if needed, but doesn't mind not playing either, depending on numbers. Look forward to seeing everyone and catching up. Thanks and Cheers, Patrizzio!
Kathy, Are you coming along tonight 6.30? Let us know asap as it may affect whether Corinne comes We have Phil, myself, Pam K and Ollie. Recent update Patrick and Corinne also available. See you tonight

Hi Pat, Look at the 1st para of your email -is that Matt Garrey your speaking of? Always amazed at your lengthy bike rides and the Garmin report that comes with it. You must be a an amazingly strong rider now. I’ll tell you about our 26 year old friend Luke from England who has nearly circumnavigated the globe recently on his bike! He lives in Vancouver now -We’ll try to have you both for dinner so you can hear his stories.

Speaking of socializing we’ll get in touch after you return from Van on the 18th or 19th. We can’t leave Vancouver before the 14th but we could stay up in the Ok for a couple of days after the 21st. I hope the weather here improves for the Folkfest for you. It usually does, by mid July it is a near sure thing -but right now it isn’t great.  We have Julie back living with us (for a short while i hope). She has just started a new job at the Noodle Box, the one near 4th Ave. & Burrard. Just been called for the second time for Lunch——must go cheers, Bill.

Hello Denise Dangereuse and Wild Bill! Yes, I was referring to Matt. Called him The Glasgow Edinburgh Express on the doubles court, Glasgow for short, since he was from there!

Of course, we love to see you and have you stay, if that works. Where will you be? Until when? We will be back from Folk Fest on Monday, July 18th but away next day to Spirit Ridge, to stay with Flamin'/Sarge, where we will celebrate Lady Dar's 69th on the 19th. We are planning to wend our way home on the 21st, perhaps the 22nd, depending on your schedule. Funnily enough, we are having lunch at Tinhorn Creek on the 22nd with Joan and Paul Whitney who are staying there for a few days. They will stay with us on Monday the 25th and Tuesday 26th, after spending the weekend in Kelowna. Anyway, let me know what you think and we'll plan accordingly.

Must away as I'm informed it is time to leave for our lunch! Fondestos from Lady Dar to you both. Look forward to connecting, one way or tother! Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Margareta! Trust you are well. Please convey our heartfelt sympathy to your Mother on the death of Aage. Also, thank you for the pictures. I do remember that afternoon and believe we visited Moesgaard Museum before having lunch with your Mother and Aage.

We enjoyed an early lunch at Lee's Overseas Delights, a very good Japanese restaurant downtown, before we said goodbye to Nicolina, Jaxon and Nadienka and they drove back to the coast. Weather is improving and sun is trying to shine so I'm hoping to go for a ride shortly. Now that our visitors have gone I will be joining the bridge group I've started. Initially, I thought we'd all be having our last dinner together this evening. Anyway, must away as I need to head out if I'm to be back in time to get ready for bridge. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you and your beer guzzling, cigarette smoking lads! Buona Fortuna with your rebellious teenagers. Send them to Tinsel Town and Ayn will shower them with Tough Love or, if that doesn't work, hand them over to Los Horridos! Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Vampire People! Trust you are both well. Are you still in Sunshine Valley and driving up from there on Friday. Last round of visitors were here until noon today, just giving us enough time to ready the house for you Freeloaders!

Thanks for being willing to support my fund raising effort, Stanchion Man. Certainly much appreciated. After we said goodbye, outside the restaurant, weather started to improve. Sun was trying to shine so I was hoping to go for a ride. However, just as I was about to suit up, phone rang, and Ben Cartwright, (We played doubles squash for many years.), called from Poplar Grove where he and Ellen, his wife, had just finished lunch at The Vanilla Pod restaurant, (Great spot, kitchen just recently expanded/renovated, for both food and wine!), there.
They drove up from Vancouver yesterday, to ride part of the KVR, out of Kelowna. They are staying in Summerland. Had a grand catch-up visit so was simply delighted that we had connected. They are off tomorrow otherwise we'd have asked them to stay as we are free until around noon on Friday!!!

Ellen and Ben left around 4:00 pm and it had just started to rain again by then so ride was definitely off. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Arrivederci Nadia; Ben and Ellen on patio, under newly re-vamped louvres!

Hi Michaelo! Trust you are well. Thanks for welcome. Terrific to be back even if we had a wonderful trip/visit. On Sunday's ride I saw Jos and Aarturo, Bodil and her finacé, Vincenzo, at the top of Peach Orchard! Now that our overnight visitors have gone I will be joining the bridge group at Robson's Redoubt. Initially, I thought we'd be having dinner together with N/J/N this evening. Sorry you won't be along but look forward to seeing you soon. We will host bridge next week. Fondestos from Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Welcome back Patrick and Corinne. You were missed! I won't make bridge tonight. We have friends visiting from Victoria coming for dinner. See you soon. Pam Hi Naramata Socialite! Trust you are well. Thanks for welcome. Terrific to be back even if we had a wonderful trip/visit. Sorry you won't be along for bridge this evening but look forward to seeing you soon. Fondestos from Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Little Engine, first stop. Owners are from Calgary! When do you open your winery? Special discount for hikers!!!

The eagle has landed! (Last night by 11pm; after a 23 hour trip loaded with hurdles.) Hope to see you soon. (As for the comrades from continental Canada, I certainly expect more than last summer! Why don't you risk your little necks, get out of your little boxes, and come over?! There is a fabulous guest room waiting for you.) Till I hear from you, walk in beauty, Gus Eagle? Surely you mean a swan. Either way, how nice that she has landed. And yes you have planted a seed re visiting Sweden, although unlikely this summer. Have fun! -Ross

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Let it be known (at the risk of stating the obvious) that my comment below was based on my mistaken and thick-headed assumption that it was Jane (the Swan) landed in Sweden rather than Kjell (Eagle among Eagles!) landed in Comox (God's Country). -Ross
Ross I was beginning to worry about you - describing Kjell as a swan. . .and a she. I was worried he was hanging out with Caitlin and would have his own reality show. Too funny Well for the record, I never said he wasn't hanging out with Caitlin. But I'm glad you are no longer worrying about me. -Ross

Hello VQA Innkeeper, Sounds like you are enjoying life. Maybe i will too if i can just get some more of that flash. Actually, i remembered that my iPad was a relatively recent creation, much later, so i saw the appeal there – forgot to tell you that, but thanks. We feel very lucky that we went on our prairie prowl and wouldn’t mind doing a return trip. This time i am going to try to stick more to pavement if i want my car to make it into it’s Golden Years.

Have been home nearly a week. Ellie is coming tomorrow, not over a prairie butte on a pinto pony, by just by ferry from the Islands. Getting the condo ready for her arrival.

Had fun yesterday with a fellow sketcher. We went to the Yellow Cab yards and got permission to sketch there. My friend Sigrid and i had great interactions with some curious taxi drivers and staff en site. Haven’t had the chance yet to finish a collection of sketches, from the trip and also from yesterday. Will post sometime this week. Best to you two, bob

Hi Sketch Artist! Your Yellow Cab outing sounded fascinating! Look forward to seeing the sketches. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you, Bob. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Whitneys? Lynn

Hi again, Lynn! We plan to drive to Vancouver on Thursday as Fest starts at 2:00 pm on Friday. New, as far as I know. Are you planning to be there then? Perhaps we can connect and make plans. Will also be in touch with Joan/Paul to see what they think about getting together, etc. Fondestos from Lady Dar to you, Lynn. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Patrizio, Thanks for the photos. Looks lovely. Too bad we can’t get together this time. I will miss learning so much more about the art of Bridge. Enjoy the summer. Carlos Hi again, Carlos! Sorry we don't seem to be able to mesh, if only due to the fact that you have so, so much to learn about bridge! Fondestos from Lady Dar to you and wonderful O Susannah! Cheers, Patrizzio!
