Hi Flash! Just received Summertime yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for including us on your mailing list. Wonderful, wonderful shots, it goes without saying, magically paired with terrific text! Have been meaning to say hello for ages but life seems to keep intruding! Have had almost wall-to-wall Freeloaders for most of the summer. Great visits but never a dull moment or even time to think. We were away in June, for three weeks, to celebrate Clara'/Dusty's 71 st wedding anniversary. All reasonably well at Falcon, given they are both in their early 90's, although Dusty is now on oxygen. Then back for the GranFondo and the visitor treadmill started up again. Chloë has been up a number of times and on her last visit, the August long-weekend, she and Lady Dar went to the SPCA to collect two kittens, Etta, (Etta James), and Duke, (Duke Ellington), to make things even more interesting around the Burns Street Gin Joint and Hot Sheets Hotel!

They are both lovely, lovely creatures and make us laugh, and gasp with exasperation, from early, early morning to late night when they start to gallop around the house like the wild horses I see on many of my hikes! Not sure how having them will affect our travel plans but since I'm scheduled for a left hip replacement on September 14th, (at UBC), not really an issue for following three months as this is the recovery period. Date has not yet been finally confirmed but I do believe it will hold, at least from my medical readiness point of view. Surgical space is more of an issue, if my past experience in 2010 is any indicator.

Chloë and close friend Krissy are driving up this evening, until Saturday. We will celebrate Chloë's 40th on Thursday, starting with lunch at Play Estate and Winery, one of the newest wineries to sprout hereabouts. We happen to know the architect, Rob McKenzie, as he designed the fabulous home of close freinds, Lynne and Peter Lighthall, in Naramata. Rob also designed Burrowing Owl and Spirit Ridge. He told us about his latest project back in May when Lynne hosted Peter's 70th at Legend Distillery, in Naramata. Restaurant has received top reviews so Lady Dar is anxious to try it out!

Well it is time for a bite of brunch before I head out for a ride. Wind is blowing at 24 kph out of the north so it will be a grind no matter which way I decide to go. Fondestos from Lady Dar, in absentia, out with her Flatlanders walking group. All the best to your and your Goils. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: Lynne, Rob and Lady Dar at Legend; Etta saying goodbye to Chloë; Gold in Wrestling! Java Kitten! Farmer's Market this past Saturday; Sunset last evening from Spiller Road, above Naramata Road, where I was playing bridge with friends from hiking group, Gilliana, Phillipo, (hosts), and Spumoni!

I think there is a road sign for Christina Lake just visible to the right of the camper on the cover of Summertime so I thought you might enjoy my account of riding Anarchist. We spent two days with Flamin' and Sarge at Spirit Ridge where they have a "fractional condo", the week following the Folk Fest. Rode to Osoyoos, on Tuesday, Anarchist on Wednesday, and then home to Penticton, via Richter and Keremeos, on Thursday. Just a piece of cake on Friday when I rode to Oliver, all downhill, more or less, where we had lunch with Joan and Paul Whitney at Tinhorn Creek.

Hi Zircon! Received my toothbrush a week ago today so thank you so much for sending it. Please let me know how much the postage was as I certainly don't expect you to foot the bill for my for my forgetfulness! Fondestos from Lady Dar. Trust move went well. All the best and Cheers, Patrizzio!

Didn't climb out of bed until 8:30 am as I was "attacked" by Duke from 6:00 am until about 7:00 am. Lady Dar had decamped to the spare bedroom at 4:00 pm as she couldn't take The Rambunctious Boy's constant nuzzling and suckling on any exposed skin surfaces! At any rate I stumbled into the kitchen to fortify myself with a strong mug of java and then answered many overdue messages while I watched some exciting Olympic Track & Field coverage. Add a few chores into the mix and I wasn't ready to ride until about 1:30 pm. Perhaps I was hoping that the wind would somehow die down as it was even stronger than yesterday, 20 kph NNW, between 1:00-2:00 pm,  22-24 kph  NNW between 3:00-4:00 pm, according to AccuWeather, while Garmin listed 26 kph N and a bit of heat at 32.8º.

Given such a head wind I balked at riding into it for any length of time so I determined I'd stitch together PTC/Vancouver/Middle and Upper Bench/PTC and then Government to Skaha Lake Park. Knew I would only have to do two loops of the course I've worked out here before heading back up South Main where I could...[Wind?] Map and Stats for ride:

Dear Patrick, Planning is well under way for the 2016 Vancouver Writers Fest! Program guides are arriving on August 22nd and we need volunteers to help with distribution throughout Metro Vancouver. Distribution volunteers are a key part of the Festival team, helping to get the word out on the streets and increase vital public awareness about the Writers Fest. Distribution is a great way to get in the door as a volunteer before the festival begins and to free up your time Festival Week to see events! Volunteers are responsible for delivering program guides to locations within an assigned zone, along with keeping those locations stocked until the Festival ends on Oct 23rd.Distribution is available in the following areas:
Gastown
  • Coal Harbour
  • West End (East of Bidwell to Thurlow)
  • North Surrey
  • North Delta
  • Langley
If you can take responsibility for keeping a route stocked between now and the end of the Festival (Oct 23), please contact me as soon as possible! In your response please indicate your top 3 zone preferences from the list above.
A minimum of 15-20 hours is expected.

Qualifications:
*You must be able to lift and carry 5-10 kg and walk short distances as necessary
*Must be able to work independently but also enjoy working with people
*Fluency in English is an asset.
*Use of car is helpful, but delivery by bicycle and/or on foot is possible as well.
Scheduling priority will be given to returning volunteers, and new volunteers will be assigned to remaining routes. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks! Michelle Harrison, Assistant to the Volunteer Manager Vancouver Writers Fest Hi Michelle, Patrick and I do not live in Vancouver so distribution jobs are not possible for us. Hope you get a good response. Best Corinne Durston
