Red Wing Garage Sale Blues: Saturday, June 4th!

War is God's way of teaching Americans geography. -Ambrose Bierce, writer (1842-1914)

Patrick- I am not sure if you have been in contact with my sister Ann or any other members of our family but just in case you have not I wanted to let you know about our mom. Mom had fallen in her apartment around May 17th. She was not hurt but could not get up. My family had just left Calgary on our vacation to Europe so Mom was only discovered after some time had passed.

The residence had her taken to the hospital and Ann was able to arrive a little later in the week. Mom is currently experiencing memory loss and delirium. She has good moments and bad but is losing connection with reality. We saw her Thursday when we returned home and she seemed happy and engaging. Ann indicated that this will swing from hour to hour toward different reactions and moods. Much of this depends on the time of day. We are waiting for a consultation with her attending physician next week but I was concerned whether or not anyone had told Dusty or Clara. Sorry to bring you this news but I hope things are well with you and your family. Cheers. Tom

Hi Tom and Ann! Thank you, Tom, for letting us know about your Mom's nasty fall. Terribly sorry to hear this, of course. Your message was first we had heard about the incident. We, (Chloë arrived last night to house-sit for us while we are in Manitoba.), just returned from the Farmer's Market, here in Penticton, and when I read your message I immediately showed it to Corinne. She is actually talking to Clara as I write. Does your Mom have a phone next to her bed? If so I think Durstons would like to talk to her when that might be possible. Is there a number you could provide or else other information that either of you might pass along, under the circumstances? I've included Clara in this message, as you can see, so you can always contact her via email.

Please pass along our fond regards to your Mom and tell her we are thinking of her and hoping for a full and speedy recovery. We would appreciate knowing how the healing process goes, naturally. In fact, we are driving to Winnipeg, leaving this coming Wednesday. to celebrate Clara's/Dusty's 71st wedding anniversary, so we might stop by, on the return leg, just to say a quick hello, if that might be a possibility. Will know more about our travel schedule once at Falcon but will be in touch, one way or another. Again, love to Betty. All the best to you both and rest of the family in this very difficult time. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: We went to a the Red Wing, (Housing development on both sides of 97, on the way to Summerland, just over the river channel to the west of Penticton.), Giant Garage sale before the FM. This is the view from upper level and some of our "finds"! Two of the FM vendors, Jenny, [gorgeous, woven pine-needle baskets], and Leigh, [Balsamic Bliss, a number of wonderful garlic, herb, habanero, etc., balsamic infusions], we have come to know. Last night around the fire-pit in our back patio.

Thanks Patrick, I spoke to Clara and I will pass on all the messages to Mom when I see her tomorrow. I will show her the photos too. It looks great!! Cheers Tom Hi again, Tom! Pleased to hear you talked to Clara. I'll be in touch again, once in Falcon and we can plan accordingly, regarding a possible visit. All the best. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello to Our Favourite Summerlandians, (The Dunns are relatives so, as family, they don't count!) Am glad that I bring smiles to your face, Josinta, not only frowns, especially after The Key Incident! Chloë arrived last night. She will be house-sitting while we are away in Manitoba. As I think everyone knows, we are driving to Winnipeg, leaving this coming Wednesday, to celebrate Clara's/Dusty's 71st wedding anniversary.

This morning we went to the Red Wing Giant Garage sale before the FM. Chloë was quite taken with the view from upper level. Had a great good time wandering around all of the sections and even managed to score some fabulous bridge prizes!

The Sisterhood went to Skaha Lake Park for a touch of swimming and sun bathing while I cycled to Crescent Beach. Thought of all you folk as I whizzed past Peach Orchard, probably sitting on your respective decks, sipping pre-dinner cocktails and enjoying life to the fullest. Must away as hors'd'oeuvres are soon to be served and I'm charged with opening a bottle of chilled white! Looking forward to seeing everyone domani. Fondestos from both Chloë and Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics:View from Red Wing; some of our "finds"! Some of the FM vendors we have come to know: Grant Stevely, owner/distiller, of Dubh Glas Distillery in Gallagher Lake. We each had a wonderful G/T before noon!
Pénélope/Dylan Roche, [They live down the street from Motorized Mary Lee!], wine-makers at Intersection, near Tinhorn Creek, but they produce three wines under their own label, Roche Wines, a Rosé, A Pinot Gris and a Pinot Noir. Jenny, [gorgeous, woven pine-needle baskets], who lives close to Jake/aka Dave, Snyder. [She is originally from San Diego, Ayn, and married a wolf biologist from Winnipeg! She lived there for sometime until The Call of the Wild was too, too much for her, I suppose!] Leigh Morrow, [Balsamic Bliss, a number of wonderful garlic, herb, habanero, etc., balsamic infusions], whose product is sold at Summergate! Cactus Woman and her Mom, Ayn. You will remember that her son was just born when you visited last summer. The cactus you bought for a house warming gift is still doing extremely well!

Hello Fellow Road Bikers! On the off chance that any or all of you are interested in a ride tomorrow, I plan to do the first couple of GranFondo sections, from Lakeshore up Vancouver, along Upper Bench and then to Summerland, Peach Orchard, etc. Back to Penticton to hit Eastside/McLean Creek Rd, into OK Falls and then Oliver Ranch Road to loop back at Stag's Hollow and then home. If anyone is interested, I can leave anytime, preferably around 10:00 am, and can go in any direction, depending on fellow riders. Anyway, let me know, via email, or call, after 8:00 am, and I'll plan accordingly. Great to bump into you at the FM, Pam. Cheers, Patrizzio

Patrick, Great to run into you, Corinne and Chloe at the market this morning. What a gorgeous day! I work tomorrow from 9-5 so no play for me. Have a great ride! Hi Oenophilia! Sorry you have to work but I'll think of you, in air-conditioned comfort, as I "attack" Peach Orchard and McLean Creek, solo, as no word from Jack Rabbit or Bad Boy! Cheers, Patrizzio Tough ride! Have fun.

After Chloë and Lady Dar had readied themselves for an afternoon at the beach I took a wonderful power nap. Slept for about an hour and a half and was up at 3:30 pm to suit up. Had decided I'd make for Summerland as I wanted a Flatlander outing and since the wind was out of the north this destination would allow me to buck the headwind on the way north and have it push me along on return leg. Think many were also at the  beach as traffic along 97 wasn't too, too bad and I was soon at Trout Creek and making for Crescent Beach. Another advantage of this particular route is that as one gets closer to Summerland, one rides in the shade, the sun's fierce rays blocked by the high bluffs at this time of day. Given that the temperature was around 31.1º, every bit of shade was a welcome relief.

Coming and going I made detours through Red Wing and not a shred of evidence of the earlier garage sales remained. Needed a few, short dipsy doodles, off Riverside, to give me the distance I'd set as the day's goal but was back at Burns Street, chuffed with my 23 kph AVG! The power nap had held me in good stead, Dear Reader! Map and Stats for ride:

We just wanted to confirm that, after applying your additional "good friends who put up with grumpy winemakers' discount of $24, we have processed your Visa account on 6/4/16 for the revised amount of $340 to reserve the wines you have requested on the order form below. We will be uploading this new order to our online database within 2-4 weeks, at which time you'll be able to verify it there. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please don't hesitate to write back.

Thanks so much for your continuing interest in receiving our wines - I'm sure you know how much it's appreciated. And thanks for the latest update. So glad to know that you enjoyed the best of times with family and friends at your 40th bash at Chloe's in Vancouver - great photos too. Was happy to see Sarge there, and guess Flamin' too but didn't recognize her in the photos. Lovely ring - was that an anniversary gift? Best regards until next time, Pat and Dave
