Kenora Olympic Cycle Blues: Sunday, June 12th!

Language is the apparel in which your thoughts parade in public. Never clothe them in vulgar and shoddy attire. -George W. Crane

Hi Patrizzio, It's so good to hear that your trip east was a safe one
and that you are having a wonderful time in spite of the broken chain incident.
I know you'll have things all looked after in no time.

We certainly missed you and Corinne last Tuesday. Since there were only 6 of us, Pam and Gil doubled up while Phil was kind enough to give assistance wherever it was needed for a game and then when Pam Webster left early Pam, Gil, Mike and myself played the second game. It was very much a learning night with a lot of table talk which was fine with everyone. A fun night.

I will be leaving very early Friday morning to enjoy our trip through the mountains and to Edmonton to do what I do best: party, eat and drink! Oh dear....oh well. It should be a good time with family and friends. I should be back for Bridge night on Tuesday, July 5th. See you then. Enjoy yourselves, stay healthy and happy and I see you soon. Hugs, Olly

Hi Dawm! Glad to learn that it was you who sent along video clip. Found it very interesting and thought provoking indeed. Not to deny any of the claims made but it seems to me that since we are all in the same boat we need to come together to find solutions that will benefit both the climate/environment and allow genuine, sustainable, economic growth and development that attempts to redress the horrific damage already wreaked upon the world, not accelerate this process.

I had thought I'd sent along the anniversary album so do apologize for not doing so earlier.
Had a very good drive from Penticton to Medicine Hat last Wednesday and spent the next night with cousins in Kenton, near Brandon, and then on to Falcon on Friday morning. So far the clouds of Manitoba super-mosquitoes haven't materialized!  We won't be back in Vancouver until the Folk Fest weekend, mid-July, 15th-17th. Are you around? If so let us know and perhaps we can arrange something. Fondestos to you, Dawmma Maria and Heraldo, from Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: Hummingbird feeder outside bay window at Durston's very comfortable A-frame, just after 9:00 am this morning. Apparently, this spring, when Dusty was in the garden, this individual, or another which frequents their feeder, perched right in front of him on the deer fence he was working beside, stared right into his face, for some time, to remind him that the feeder was not yet up and full! I've tried this tactic with Lady Dar while waiting for my own breakfast but with very little, if any success, I'm sorry to report!

Patrick, So many things to say thank you for. Number 1, I didn't realize my name was incorrect on my phone until you, eagle eyes, pointed it out. Fortunately Gerry was able to figure out how to correct it. Second we really enjoyed seeing your photos of your 40th wedding anniversary party. So sad we missed it. I must say the gift for Corinne was beautiful and certainly well deserved! Third, I am very pleased you viewed the video I sent. I do agree with you that we need to move beyond the emotional rhetoric and try to make wise decisions taking all facets into account. There are so many very polarized views that often it is impossible to even discuss the issues.

I did try to make a comment on Your photos but aren't a member of Yahoo so it wouldn't accept my comments. We probably will be in Vancouver mid July. We will give you a call once you are back in Penticton. Give your wife a hug from us. Cheers, Dawn

Hi No-Trump Naramatian!! I had a message from Olga Polga and she mentioned you were at bridge game at Robson's Redoubt. How did it go? Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Naughty Nancy! Must apologize for not replying sooner to your last, wonderfully full message of almost two weeks ago now. Busy time before we left. Fondestos to you from both Clarisse and Dusty, as well as Lady Dar, busy making pizza for tonight's dinner. Must away as I'm going to have a sauna before we eat and then play more bridge. All the best. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Glasgow! Trust all goes well. Best wishes to you and Catherine from both Rosita and Coat-Hanger, as well as Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Bob! Trust all goes well. Can't quite remember your full travel schedule but I assume Olivetti is now back in Germany. How was Seattle? Busy time before we left but had a very good drive from Penticton to Medicine Hat this past Wednesday and arrived at 6:30 pm to find Jim had arranged a bridge game! We enjoyed a lovely dinner beforehand and Costanza, (Connie Jones), a friend James has been playing duplicate with, was the fourth. Not being a very good host, Zircon had top score!

Spent the next night with cousins in Kenton, near Brandon, and then on to Falcon on Friday morning. Played more bridge last night with Corinne's parents. Dusty was my partner and we shellacked The Sisterhood, Lady Dar and Rosie-the-Riveter, a quick rubber and then a slow one! They have to do the dishes for the next two weeks!

I was about to head out for a ride yesterday, around 4:00 pm. All my good intentions came to nowt, unfortunately, as after about 11 km my chain broke! Had to call Lady Dar and the support vehicle to come and collect me. While I was waiting, first two cars to pass by stopped to ask if I required any help. Thanked people in first car and said that my grumpy wife was coming shortly, or so I hoped! Did the same for the next car and when I mentioned that the earlier vehicle had stopped and turned onto the same road leading to Star Lake I asked if they might know them. "Oh yes", was the answer, "They are staying at our cabin!"

Anyway, Mme Coriandre was along soon and we were back at Falcon much, much sooner than I had expected to be. I was hoping to take my bike into Kenora today to have chain replaced but seems as if the store is closed on Sunday. Raining steadily now and forecast suggests it will be soggy for the rest of the day so at least it is a good time to catch up on messaging!
Fondestos to you from Lady Dar. All the best. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics:
Door to sauna. I enjoyed a glorious sweat-lodge time there late this afternoon! Caught this female as we were eating our own dinner, (two scrumptious gluten-free pizzas, different toppings, (back bacon and pineapple/ground turkey and orange pepper), by Lady Dar. She must have been quite hungry as she stayed for quite some time and allowed me to take more shots than did the male.

Hi Pat, Never got your photos. The attachment file names are visible, but nothing else. Maybe they got lost in the copy and paste shuffle. Oliver is back in Frankfurt now. In the meantime, Werner is here, for 15 days. Werner was in your living room, back in 2007, but I am not sure you will remember our short visit.

The two of us are staying with Ellie. Last night friends/neighbours came over to join us for a delicious chicken curry, washed down with wine. We sat outside while finches and hummingbirds flitted around the feeders. Previous to that, Werner and I were in a cabin, for a few days, and overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Even had a pod of orcas pass by in the distance. When we arrived on Saltspring, we were spoiled with a dinner of spicy Jambalaya plus a rhubarb and strawberry pie.

Seattle was great. If you scroll back on my FB, there are a gaggle of photos with field notes including: sketches, EMP (Experience Music Project) Museum, the graves of Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Lee, Sunday morning black gospel music at a Baptist church, live music in a Ballard tavern and more. Best to you and Corinne, Bob

Hi Bob! Not sure why the snaps would not be attached. Re-sent message as you probably now know. What a wonderful shot of Ellie and her rhubarb and strawberry pie! Lucky dogs, you and Werner. I do remember him so please say hello and send along best wishes. To Ellie, as well, of course! Will take a look at your FB photos. Thanks. Fondestos from Lady Dar. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Lynette!Trust all goes well and that we didn't make too, too much noise before we left! All the best. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Thank you for your birthday wishes. We had a very nice lunch at the lakeside hotel with old friends. I will continue to celebrate next week after the bike ride and yet again on Thursday. As you get older you need multiple events to dilute the shock of the higher numbers.

I am glad to hear that the mosquitoes are not devouring you. I have never been to Winnipeg as I have had reports of the ravenous mosquitos to be found there.
Hope to see you soon on a Tuesday bike ride. Remember the advanced age of your correspondent and assume that it is either a technological or memory glitch if you do not receive advance notice of a ride. See you soon Colleen

Thank you Gill for organizing the ride. Let's have lunch at Cambo Beach Restaurant, 914 Lakeshore Dr., Penticton. Note that We are meeting at Home Hardware. Hope to see you Tuesday. Colleen

Hi Patrick, Nice to hear from you. Your trip east is going well from all accounts. I hope that you were able to get your bike fixed quickly. Bridge last Tuesday...I would say it was the blind leading the blind😊 but fun nonetheless. Gill and Phill have a lovely spot. I will miss the hike tomorrow but plan to make bridge Tuesday night at Olly's house. I need to review the bidding rules (several times so that they stick) before Tuesday night. You should be returning yo Penticton just about the time Mary Lee and Paul return from Hamilton. There is a fun fundraising event, an art auction, at the Penticton Art Gallery on June 25. If you are back by then I encourage you to rally the hiking, biking and bridge groups and attend. I will be there. I'll introduce you to the director of the gallery, a Paul Crawford. He is a great guy.

Best, Pam Here is a helpful website that sets out bridge basics. Scroll to the bottom of this link to find a further link that explains the basics of bidding.
