Day 55, Post-Op Remembrance Day The Last Post Blues: Friday, November 11th

Brothers and sisters are as close as hands and feet. -Vietnamese proverb

Hello Homeward Bound Travelers! Gather you'll be winging your way back to Vancouver today. Trust all your connections mesh! Chloë is here for the weekend. Later this afternoon we are off to see Arrival. Perhaps this is an allegory for finding a way to communicate with Trump!

At any rate, quite a thought-provoking "aliens" film, in which the concept of time plays a central role. "Multiple mysterious extraterrestrial spacecraft touch down across the globe, nicknamed "Shells" by the U.S. military. Linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) is selected to lead a special team created to enter a Shell in Montana, due to her skills in translation. Also in the team are theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), and US Army Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker). Louise is haunted by memories of her deceased daughter, with each memory serving a purpose in helping her decode the aliens' language. After first contact with two cephalopod-like aliens called Heptapods for their radial seven arm symmetry, and whom Ian nicknames Abbott and Costello, Louise and Ian discover they are able to communicate with them using the aliens' written language."

"When Louise starts remembering her dead daughter, Costello tells her that she can see the future, revealing that all the flashbacks of her daughter haven't happened yet. The Heptapods' language structure allows for the speaker to be in all times at once—a strong extension of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis—instead of experiencing time linearly like most humans. Costello tells Louise that their purpose on Earth is to receive trust from humans so that, in return, they can receive help from the latter in 3000 years."

I must admit that I "missed" the implications of Louise's "flashbacks to the future", so to speak, and had to have much of the film explained to me on the short walk back to the car! Aside from the seemingly inescapable fact that we humans seem to be genetically encoded to greet the unknown with fear and violence, even in the face of obviously, vastly superior technological superiority, arguably like throwing rocks at tanks, it was certainly a very interesting take on imagining other life in the universe.

Back home to have a delicious supper of pasta slathered with meatballs that Lady Dar had had bubbling away in the slow cooker, for much of the afternoon, while we watched a few more episodes of The Crown. From the future to the past of the '50's, so a bit of a time shift indeed! Fondestos from The Penticton
Sisterhood to you both. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Patrick, You may have the pile of wood by the road near the curly willow tree. It's available for pick up any time. Pam

Hi Pamela! Thanks for notification.  Haven't yet talked to Guilermo this morning but am hoping to collect some wood from site in question. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hi Patrick, Loved the photo! Noteworthy man today…whisky man in the future.

Thanks for your interest in our Cask Futures program, please find more information below and an attached contract. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Before the distillery opened a rare opportunity was presented privately to initial supporters of the Dubh Glas Distillery; Cask Futures of single-malt whisky. It was so popular we had to stop selling them this spring so that we could catch up in our production and meet the needs of our clients. With increased staff and production, the Cask Futures program is now available to the public, offering you a rare opportunity to be part of Canadian single malt whisky history and being part of the future in The Dubh Glas Distillery.

Cask Futures are being sold for $2288 for small cask portions. A small cask portion is not the whole cask, it is essentially only half the cask. In fact the distillery itself owns the remainder and unlike other distilleries that sell casks, we have a vested interest in ensuring that you will be getting a quality product because we actually own the remainder of the barrel.

Your cask portion has three options (as outlined in the contract) - enjoyment, maturation or investment. For your enjoyment, option one can be bottled and custom labelled for you at the 3-3.5yr maturity date (44 X 750mL = $52 including taxes/bottle). Older whisky has a great opportunity to develop more character and charisma, so the maturation period can be extended to age for subsequent years and bottled for that special occasion or event as a second option. Or as a third option as an investment, the bottles can be given back to the distillery for sale in general distribution in which you will receive a 50% share of the net profit plus your original investment. This profit is estimated to be in the $400-$500 range - this may go higher as small batch whisky products gain in popularity and price.

You will also get your name or business name prominently displayed on the cask for distillery visitors to see, an annual sample, visitation privileges, complimentary tastings of all distillery products for you and your guests, two Dubh Glas Distillery exclusive whisky tasting Glencairn glasses, certificate of ownership and most importantly a rare opportunity to be part of Canadian distilling history.

It’s been a very successful program so far and we look forward to potentially sharing in the success with you. In good spirits, Stevely

Hi Patrick, I don't think so, thanks. Fred Wuhrer and I had an 18 year old Arran tonight. Delicious. Peter Hi Arran Malt Man! Didn't think, after Caledonia offer, that you would be interested but thought I might as well let you know. Not sure what I plan to do but will probably ask a number of other friends what they think and take it from there. Fondestos from The Penticton Sisterhood to you and Lynne. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Just a bit of shameless advertising from Jim….The TuneAgers Christmas concert is on Sunday, December 4th. The information poster is attached. Tickets are available from me or from the locations listed on the poster. It would be great to see you there. Cheers, Jim Hi James! We have our tickets, as you probably know, and are both looking forward to concert. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Patrick James Dunn Stunningly beautiful and deadly, just like you, Marilyn!
