Sunny and Frosty Blue Sky Blues: Tuesday, February 2nd!

Jobs are like going to church: it's nice once or twice a year to sing along and eat something and all that, but unless you really believe there's something holy going on, it gets to be a drag going in every single week. -Thomas Michael Disch, science fiction author and poet (2 Feb 1940-2008)

Hi Ragin'! Thanks for the call last night. Terrific to chat with you and hear your more than distinctive voice! Have included account of yesterday's hike. Wonderful group of people. Guillermo, one of hiking crew, and his wife, Nancy, (They just live a block away, on same street as us!), will come for dinner on Wednesday and have their introductory bridge lesson. Have also included some snaps of the new, improved garage! Don't worry, there are plenty of other projects on which I can use your expertise and craftsmanship!!! Ypu'll need to stay for a month!

Must away as one of my demanding bosses, Dusty, (Lady Dar is other, grumpier one! She is assuming the Ready-to-Strike Cobra as I scribe.), is making noises about it being time to go outside to finish off patio steps. We, (ie. Dusty!), have some electrical and plumbing work to finish off before we put planking in place. This will allow us easy, efficient access to the outlets when we are using the patio. Cool, (-7º C), this morning so needed to split a bit more wood to keep fire blazing. Fortunately, the sun creates a bit of a heat sink where we are working on patio steps so quite pleasant to be outside under these circumstances.

If interested, give Michaelo a call about Rugby Sevens in March. Take care of yourself, St Branimir. Fondestos from the Gang of Three, Rosita, Coat-Hanger and Mme Coriandre, just back from yoga. Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Pics: Jugos Dom Pedro sent this cartoon yesterday. He is in league with Lady Dar! Initial stage of patio steps. Tina, (Visiting from Adelaide, via Sun Peaks), helping Cora Lee plant our potted Christmas tree last week. Dusty putting preservative on stair risers at workbench. Note vice, two metal tool cabinets and stained glass window. We have since mounted blind, taken from window, in my "office", (Which the two of us mounted in guest bedroom.), when we had patio door installed, to keep out the blazing summer sun. Looks quite attractive, even when down, if open. Wine tasting with Freeloaders at Poplar Grove this past Saturday. Latest load of firewood, stacked against Rumpus Room wall. I plan to move much of it around the side of the house when I have some spare time!  Open blind,
chop saw and back of shelf below work bench.

Hello Tom Thomson of BC! Thanks for snap of yesterday's hike, Timothy! Very impressed, as well, with your Mount Robson. Showed it to Dusty this morning and he was very taken with it as well. While he is certainly not an expert, (and perhaps not even as accomplished, in some painterly ways, as you), he suggested that by adding some dark green on blue shadows of mountain ridges  the resulting contrast might be quite effective. Speaking for my untutored eye, (I am not allowed any suggestions or opinions in terms of colours anywhere in our house, clothes included, by the Colour Polizei, headed by Lady Darjeeling!), I think the landscape is wonderfully rendered and congratulate you on such a terrific painting! Bravo! Onward!!!

Must away as patio steps are still calling. Hello to you and Marionetta from Mme Coriandre. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pic: Rainbow outside Sumac Ridge. We stopped there after we left you at Costco on Thursday as Dusty wanted some white wine.

Hi Patrick, Thanks for the encouragement and input from Dusty.  I checked behind Sumac Ridge for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.  Came up empty!  I have a used canoe for sale in the National Art Gallery. Impressionistically, Tim Thompson
Hi Thomson Twins! Just wondering if you have tried to download any of the photos in the Flickr albums I've sent along as I just received a message from Aarturo the Grumpster complaining that he cannot do so. My settings on this system should allow this. Anyway, when you have a minute, please let me know. Thanks.

Finally getting close to finishing off the patio steps. Spent a goodly part of the afternoon pre-drilling so that it will be easier to screw planks into place without showing screwheads. As well, Dusty rewired an outdoor outlet that will be covered when steps are in place so that we have it in a much more useable spot. As well, we did much the same for the water outlet, threading a short length of garden hose through holes we drilled in the risers and adding a shut-off valve to the hose carrier water inlet. The hose utility box will be placed near the end of the steps, for ease of access, and enable us to control the water supply whenever we need to use the hose. However, Dusty has designed the steps so that one plank can be removed, quite easily, should we need to gain access to the original fittings. Wanted to seal some of the small openings around the inside perimeter of the steps but ran out of "foam goop in a can" so will have to make a run to Rona tomorrow morning. Needed to go there anyway as we need a few other bits and pieces for other small chores we want to finish.

Not sure if we'll have time for the shelving Cora Lee and I had talked about, in the living room, for our stereo equipment as time is running out. Our two daughters are coming for the weekend, (Chloë, youngest, from Vancouver, on Thursday, and Ayn, from Tinsel Town, on Friday.), and I am to receive a double crown and filling on Thursday. Nevertheless, Dusty has already come up with a basic design, based on what we said we wanted. He has measured our various pieces of equipment and drawn plans to scale. Good friend, Ragin' Bull, from Vancouver, called last night, and he may well visit over the next little while. He came up in September and we made a start on garage shelving at that time. He is quite skilled so I'm almost happy to wait for him as we've been on the go, around the house, ever since the Durstons arrived on January 12th.

Anyway, Lady Dar is calling as we are to watch a recorded episode of Elementary. Buona Fortuna with sale of canoe, T(im)aNdT(om)! Might be confusing if Tina comes back next year as I refer to her and her husband, Trevor, as TNT! All the best to Marionetta. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pic: Dusty is fond of painting flowers, many from his own garden in Falcon Lake. Does much of his work from pictures so he wants me to send this shot of Lady Dar's vase, taken this morning.
Very nice & funny (... as usual). Aarturo  Hi Patrizzzzzzzioooo, I cannot download your photos, because I think you prevent that in your settings. I would like to keep several. Would you please change this? Thanks. Aarturo
Hi Aarturo The Grump! Checked my settings on Flickr and system should allow this. Had occasion to send a message to Timothy so I asked him if he had tried to download any of the photos in the Flickr albums I've sent along. No reply as of this writing. Glad you enjoyed shots and captions, in spite of resolution! Had the following from Tina, after I posted one of me on yesterday's hike, taken by Timon of Summerland:

Love this photo Patrick James Dunn, give my warmest regards to all of the hikers, especially Arturo

Buona Fortuna with downloading. Fondestos from Lady Dar, (I gave her a bear hug, as per your instructions!), to you and Jocinta! Cheers, Patrizzio!

Thanks Patrick for the photos and the review of the hike yesterday
Spectacular and quite a workout I'm sure!!...Nice to see so many winter enthusiasts!!....not sure I would be able to keep up with you all but I am doing my best to stay physically active here in the Santa Barbara surroundings!!

I spent the week-end at a Festival of new plays...hung around with play writers and actors and I was saturated with optimum live theatre!,...I feel blessed for having had this opportunity!!..However I do miss the Okanagan friends and lifestyle from time to time,...but am certainly not complaining!, Cheerios!!....Elle

Hi Murielle! Lovely to hear from you and know you enjoy the snaps and silly bits I write about hike. I'm sure you would have done very well, especially with all your hiking around Santa Barbara. I'm sure you are as much missed by hikers here as you might miss us. Buona Fortuna, Cheerios, (Terrific variation on "Fondestos"! Bravo!!!), and traditional Cheers, Patrizzio!
