Naramatia Dinner Bell Blues: Saturday, February 6th!

People change and forget to tell each other. -Lillian Hellman, playwright (1905-1984)

Jill SomerThe beautiful sea...Patrick James Dunn No denying this marvellous scene but you might consider visiting us in wine country around Okanagan Lake. Taken this past Monday on a hike near Summerland, about 15 minutes from where we live in Penticton! Greetings from both Chloë, (up from Vancouver to visit her grandparents, from Manitoba, who have been staying with us for last month or so), and Corinne. Cheers to you, Jill, and to one and all on Skolpelos!
Hi Bridge Bruised Bill! Sorry to hear about your lacerations but glad to learn that Nancy is feeling better. Pleased that you enjoyed the meal and the company if not the "suite" handling! Understand about the car-pooling. Not a big deal. Let me know, at some point, like bridge, when you are ready.

For my part, I was feeling a bit "bruised" on Thursday, but for another reason
Chloë, Mme Coriandre went to the 3:30 pm showing of Room, later that afternoon. Do you know the story? Quite a chilling tale of abduction, forced confinement for seven years, resulting in the birth of a child whose only knowledge of the outside world was via TV, mediated by stories his mother told him, trying to shield him from the horror of their situation. Simply wonderful performances by the son and abductee. Fondestos from The Sisterhood at Burns Street and Mr Fixit, to you and Nancy. Cheers, Patrizzio!
Hi Pam! I would certainly recommend James Chung. Not inexpensive care but don't really think one will find dental work that is! I assume you are right about "bonding" as opposed to cementing. Just my lack of technical expertise on this matter.
Your lunch sounded delish as well. Mme Coriandre knows Lachi so I think The Flatlanders should really be called The Luncheonettes! If we have time we might try to squeeze in seeing Hail, Caesar, a light comedy by the Coen brothers. I am a fan of most of their work. Need a bit of a laugh to counter yesterday's dark tale. That being said, the resilience of the two, and the love they shared in the face of such evil is certainly compelling and uplifting, a testament to the human spirit. While I was somewhat familiar with the plot I did not realize that a goodly portion of it dealt with the extremely difficult recovery/reintegration of the two survivors. In this vein, I am much attracted to Rectify, (on Netflix):
Sundance Channel's first wholly owned scripted series stars Aden Young as Daniel Holden, who spends nearly 20 years on death row for the rape and murder of a teenage girl, before new DNA evidence nullifies his conviction. He returns home, but he's far from welcomed. As he struggles to adapt, Daniel is comforted by support from his younger sister, Amantha, who has always believed in his innocence and has worked her entire adult life to secure his release.
Quite a series. As it happens, Chloë is a good friend of Aden's sister, Rachel, and we have met her on a number of occasions, in Vancouver. Cheers, Patrizzio and Mr Fixit.
Hi Baroque Meister! Obviously you have your own dentist but I would certainly recommend James Chung. My crowns and filing were a tidy $2,800 but Blue Cross picks up all but $980 so I can't really complain. Have about another $4,000 worth of work to be done, more crowns and bridges, (This has already been pre-approved by the same plan.), over next year or so, according to what James has suggested. Again, I must pay a certain portion so will stage work as finances and timing allow, more or less. What sort of coverage do you have
The Sisterhood just left for the hair salon! Cheers to you and Jocita, Patrizzio!
Pics: The gold crown James removed. I plan to have it made into a pendant, encrusted with precious jewels, for Lady Dar, for our 40th wedding anniversary this coming May! Dusty reading a catalogue this morning.

Dear Media Brown Bag Sandwich Star! Just wanted to send along Canadian congratulations on the wonderful testament to your wonderful self and bread dough magic! Lady Dar read out the entire article to the assembled company, a day or so ago, and we all agreed that it was a pittura stellare of you, you remarkable baker and friend! A local history story that certainly needed to be told and recorded. From my point of view, the only thing missing was how we "Itinerant Freeloaders" have always been the grateful beneficiaries of your manna munificence. Bravo! Onward!! Fight!!! Cheers, Patrizzio.
That dental process is fascinating. Here, we mostly have a crown fitted, then come back a week later when it is made off premises. The process you went through is much better for a place which is very spread out and people probably have to drive in some cases for hours to get to the dental office. So "one stop" for the complete process makes sense.

We are doing ok. Memorial service in a bit for my men's group one-time beloved colleague David T., who succumbed to a dreadful case of prostate cancer.  Just back from visiting Deidre and a bit of shopping, including Farmer's Market where the $16 I had in my pocket got stretched to acquire all we really need-planning for dinner on Monday where ace pianist Monica C. and husband Chris, whom I've known since she was a stellar undergrad performer at noon concerts some 15-20 years ago make initial visit to Villa Vicente.  Now of course if I had been in Canada, just think how much I could have gotten for those big 16 US bills.  But as we know the pendulum (traditionally) swings both ways, so your day will likely come again.

Still not sure of summer plans; presumably, if we did go to the Boise wedding (June 18) we would rent a car and drive up, unless we can figure out a way to triangulate an airplane trip without breaking the bank. Still plenty of time we presume....Yesterday was the 22nd anniversary of our return to Vicente after the fire.We will spend Valentine's day at a hotel in Bolinas, ready for the Amber Cross Concert there that night! http://www.ambercrossmusic.com/

Ciao for now! I hear the sweet sounds of the vacuum cleaner and I must retaliate with the clothes dryer! Super Star Cactoid

Hi again Patrick; I went to see Room before it showed in Penticton. I drove to Kelowna to see it; I didn't think Penticton would ever show it. I really wanted to see it, ever since it got the people's choice award at TIFF. I too enjoyed it but it is dark, oh so dark. She is so traumatized by the experience. The boy seems to bounce back more quickly, a testament to her raising of him in confinement. I enjoyed the movie "The 33" better - of the 33 chilean miners who were trapped in that mining accident a few years back. It was truly uplifting with the resilience and growth of the men while stuck underground.

I would also like to see "Hail Caesar" because I like the Coen brothers. I especially liked Fargo, which is surprising to me because I don't usually like crime movies. But the movie is so centered on the pregnant police woman that it's OK. I never did see "No country for old men". I got turned off by the violence..... Thanks for the dental recommendation. I don't need one now, but I'll keep him in mind for the future when I need my crowns redone..... Pam

We're looking forward to seeing the painting. Peter
