Roses are Red Valentine's Blues: Sunday, February 14th!

The appropriately beautiful or ugly sound of any word is an illusion wrought on us by what the word connotes. -Max Beerbohm, writer, critic, and caricaturist (1872-1956)

One day a father, on his way home from work suddenly remembers that it's his daughter's birthday. He stops at a toy store and goes in and asks the sales person, 'How much for one of those Barbies in the display window?'

The salesperson answers, 'Which one do you mean, Sir? We have: Work Out Barbie for $19.95, Shopping Barbie for $19.95, Beach Barbie for $19.95, Disco Barbie for $19.95, Astronaut Barbie for $19.95, Skater Barbie for $19.95, and Divorced Barbie for $265.95'.

The amazed father asks: 'It's what? Why is the Divorced Barbie $265.95 and the others only $19.95?' The slightly miffed salesgirl rolls her eyes, sighs, and answers, 'Sir..., Divorced Barbie comes with: Ken's Truck, Ken's House, Ken's Fishing Boat, Ken's Furniture, Ken’s Dog, Ken's Computer, one of Ken's Friends, and a key chain made from Ken's testicles.'
Oh D, love you.

We are in Vancouver in early March, 11th/12th/13th for Cuffed and Rugby Sevens. Are you around? Busy schedule but perhaps a quick visit. Cheers, Patrizzio!

What a lovely thought, Patrick. Thank you! We were having a Valentine's brunch here with Robin and family plus the senior Pitchfords. A deli style feast and no one wanted chopped liver. So please come and appreciate my culinary talent before I forget how it works. Love to the Penticton People ---at least those whom we know. Nancy

Hi Naughty Nancy! Trust you are well. Glad you enjoyed the card. However, I simply cannot even begin to imagine anyone not wanting your fabulous chopped liver! Shame on them!!! Fondestos from Lady Dar to you and David. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Happy Valentine's Day, Roma and Leonard! Trust you are both well. We miss you terribly but life goes on, here in Paradise! Thanks for your message of January 11th, Roma, with the lovely Christmas photos and your New Year's wishes. Time for you folks to come west. Happy Valentine's Day, Kitsilano Kids! Trust you are both well. How is your back, Wild Bill? Thanks for your message of January 13th, Guillermo.

Lady Dar just hobbled off to the car to drive to Oasis, the United Church she is attending here. I've been, on Christmas Eve, and both minister and congregation are extremely welcoming. A number of the hiking group attend, as well as the lay minister who is in charge of the Tasting Room at Noble Ridge! I presented Mme Coriandre with a gift certificate to Mile Zero, a recently opened wine bar, this past summer/fall, [http://milezerowinebar.ca/], for one of her Valentine's presents. You can take a look at what they pour if curious. Just across the street from Cannery Brewing Company so we just toddle from one to the other and then up the hill to Naramata to hit the distilleries there! Tough life, here in Paradise, as I mentioned!

Plan to have a bottle of 8th Generation Integrity, (Frizzante Style Chardonnay and Pinot Gris), 13.1%, their version of Prosecco, I gather, to start the evening, followed by a 2102 Tertre Rouge, 13.8% from Syncromesh, 50% Cabernet Franc, 50% Merlot, fruit from Turtle Rock Farms on the Narmata Bench. Winery is a tiny operation, under the shadow of Peach Cliff, just our of OK Falls, off McLean Creek Road, just up from Meyer Family Vineyards. Interesting place. AS well, they do about four or five Rieslings, all from different parts of the Okanagan. As name suggests, owner is car crazy but I guess you have to be crazy to make wine anyway!
Cheers, Patrizzio! Pics: Dinner on Saturday with Lynne and Peter. I took along a lightweight 2009 Warrabilla Durif, 16.9%, a tad anaemic compared to the last bottle of 2009 Parola's Reserve, weighing in at 18.0%. Will save it for your next visit/stay!

Happy Valentine's Day, Coquitlam! Trust you are well. How does it feel to be back in the rain, Eskimo Todd? Cheers, Patrizzio!

Happy Valentine's Day, Brenda Louise! Trust you and Wally, are both well. We miss you and Picasso terribly but life goes on, here in Paradise! Thanks for your message of over a month ago now, January 7th, via Wally, with the most interesting facts about Inja! I was aware of some of them but not most, so much appreciated! Time for you folks to come east. You owe us a number of stays after all your wonderful hospitality! Take care of yourselves. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hello Naramatia! Thanks for wonderful hootch and the "loan" of the gorgeous orchid. Where did you ever get it? Trust all goes well on trip to Palm Desert. Enjoy the heat for us and will look forward to seeing you upon return. Fondestos from Lady Dar, reclining on couch, in living room, basking in fire's glow and wine buzz and reading. Cheers, Patrizzio! Following was forwarded by a good friend in Kamloops. Pics: Enjoying a lazy Valentine's Day afternoon!

Patrick, Thanks for your great pea and ham soup, as well as the shot of Glenfarclas. Just the thing to revive a cold golfer. Cheers, Peter

Hi Byron! Thanks for your New Year's wishes of January 6th! Sorry that it has taken me so long to reply. Jugos Dom Pedro just popped by, after his golf game, to drop of an orchid we will plant sit while they are away in Desert Storm. I gather you and Ann will be joining them for part of their stay. Thought you might like the following:

"WALKING ON THE GRASS..."

The room was full of pregnant women with their husbands.

The instructor said, "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you.

Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier. Just pace yourself, make plenty of stops and try to stay on a soft surface like grass or a path."
"Gentlemen, remember -- you're in this together. It wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her. In fact, that shared experience would be good for you both."
The room suddenly became very quiet as the men absorbed and pondered this information. After a few moments a man, at the back of the room, slowly raised his hand.

"Yes?" asked the Instructor. "I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag? This level of sensitivity can't be taught.

Enjoy your sojourn in the sun and we look forward to seeing you here, in the not too, too distant future. Cheers, Patrizzio! Pic: JDP warming up with a wee dram of Glenfarclas, aged 15 years, 46%! Lady Darjeeling after a glass or two of Jugos' 2015 Two Petes Naramata Bench Riesling! I've just dialed 911 as she stopped breathing about half an hour ago! This level of sensitivity can't be taught!

Happy Valentine's Day, West Van/Sidney-ites! Trust you are both well. While we miss you terribly, life goes on, here in Paradise! Thanks for your message, of over a month ago now, January 7th, with newsy Christmas letter attached. [Other than your over-use of "lovely", I can find little to find fault with and must congratulate you all on the lovely Xmas epistle! Babes in silk 'ain't bad either!!!

Mme Coriandre hadn't been home but a few minutes when Jugos Dom Pedro popped by, after his golf game, to drop of an orchid we will plant sit while they are away in Desert Storm. He brought along two bottles of wine, made from fruit he grows, a Riesling and a Chardonnay. From past vintages we've tasted, former is simply wonderful. First of former so will report anon. Time for you folks to rid yourselves of sea legs and come north. You owe us a number of stays after all your wonderful hospitality! Take care of yourselves. Cheers, Patrizzio!

We spent a very pleasant Valentine's Day, in large part due to Jugos Dom Pedro's fabulous Riesling. Mme Coriandre gave me a mini-pedicure for her Valentine's Day present. Felt absolutely wonderful. [Never question Nana's love for you after this....] I presented her with a gift certificate to Mile Zero, a recently opened wine bar, this past fall, [http://milezerowinebar.ca/], for one of her Valentine's presents. You can take a look at what they pour if curious. Just across the street from Cannery Brewing Company so we just toddle from one to the other and then up the hill to Naramata to hit the distilleries there! Tough life, here in Paradise!

Had a bottle of 8th Generation Integrity, (Frizzante Style Chardonnay and Pinot Gris), 13.1%, their version of Prosecco, I gather, to start the evening. For dinner Mrs Patmore concocted a super delish shrimp pasta which we enjoyed with a local red, a 2102 Tertre Rouge, 13.8% from Syncromesh, 50% Cabernet Franc, 50% Merlot, fruit from Turtle Rock Farms on the Naramata Bench. Winery is a tiny operation, under the shadow of Peach Cliff, just out of OK Falls, off McLean Creek Road, just up from Meyer Family Vineyards. Interesting place. As well, they do about four or five Rieslings, all from different parts of the Okanagan. As name suggests, owner is car crazy but I guess you have to be crazy, (except Dom Pedro, of course!), to make wine anyway!

You should read my diary, but I suspect you are too busy writing like me. I am still trying to convince Pat to visit you but she is not interested in traveling with me in my Model S (New December) Tesla 90D. Yes I turned in the old two year old one.............Dave

What a lovely card and even lovelier sentiment! I enjoyed a wonderful day with the Big Guy and oldest daughter Kate. Hope you had a marvelous day with your family too! Dave is still hoping to convince me to take a road trip through your area and onto Banff. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, keep sending your musings and photos. Just haven't had a chance to respond to much of anything lately. We're looking into upgrading to an automated point of sale system for the winery, so once we get that going, I plan to kick back and "semi-retire"! All the best from sunny California where we're currently experiencing early springlike weather. Hope to get more rain later this week. Cheers! Patrizia
