Bye Bye Snowbank Blues: Friday, January 15th!

The human mind treats a new idea the same way the body treats a strange protein; it rejects it. -Peter. B. Medawar, scientist, Nobel laureate (1915-1987)
 Sarge Out-of-the-Saddle:
Wayne Sutherland Today is the last day of my amazing journey over the last 35 years that has taken me from New Glasgow NS to Regina Sk then to Grand Falls/Windsor, Whitbourne, St. John's, Goose Bay, back to St John's in Newfoundland and Labrador and then finally to Vancouver BC. Today I head off to work for the last time and move into that next phase of life. I have so many incredible memories and met so many amazing people over the journey that it would be impossible to mention them all. I would like to thank and congratulate my beautiful wife Michele Darrow-Sutherland and my three amazing children Ryan Sutherland, Corey William and Nicole Marie who have shared this journey with me. I now also have two special Daughters-in-Law, Rebecca and Megan, and a great Son-in-Law, Marvin; now have two lovely Grandchildren, Avery and Jaxon, and hopefully more to come to share the next journey with. With my new lease on life I look forward to another 35 years of retirement.

Patrick James Dunn Hip Hip Hooray, Sarge! Onward!!! Cheers!!!!

Hi Aarturo! Sorry we didn't mention, during last night's call, that we'd be delighted to join you both at the Dream Cafe on February 27th. We can chat about the logistics tomorrow but please go ahead and make necessary reservations. We had driven to Kamloops yesterday to see close friends, Tina and Trevor, from Adelaide. They have been skiing at Sun Peaks for the last fifteen years or so. We were introduced to them, in 2000, by a mutual friend from Merritt and since then we have visited/stayed with them in Australia, while they have done the same with us, in Vancouver. Their daughter Kirsty, and partner Chris, along with son, Mark, and his wife, Brie, and two daughters, Mya and Jade, were all able to join them this year.

Tina will visit us, here in Penticton, in a couple of weeks and would like to join the Boot Hike so I trust you'll have a chance to meet her then. Unfortunately, due to time constraints/expense, etc, rest of family won't be able to join her. Holiday is primarily to ski so that is another reason everyone wants to spend as much time on the mountain as possible, for obvious reasons.

Anyway, it was a full, busy, rewarding day. Lady Dar called when she was "dummy"! See you domani. Fondestos from Lady Dar, not barking out orders, at the moment! Cheers, Patrizzio.

P & C, Jane and I are on the ferry to Victoria trying to plan a trip in March.
Would like to visit Tummla's Reach on 15, 16, 17 March if that works for you.
It is Jane's birthday on the 16th so we might have to pop a cork or something.
Let us know if that is amenable to the proprietors. Fond regards to all, G, J & M

Hi Ferry Slaves! Wonderful news that since you've broken the bank and your fused back on Break-Back Island you will be coming to freeload and recuperate at the Burns Street Gin Joint and Hot Sheets Hotel! Let me echo Lady Darjeeling's sentiments about celebrating Calamity's 70th birthday here. We have plenty of items we were planning to re-gift anyway so it should be more like Christmas than a birthday party!

Make sure you bring bikes as weather should be poifect for rides. I'd like to show you some of my routes as well as exploring the KVR where grades might be more approachable for The Sisterhood, at least as far as Lady Dar is concerned. At any rate, we'll chat, I'm sure, before then.

Corinne's parents arrived on Tuesday and when we are not playing bridge and drinking wine, Dusty is already helping me, [Perhaps, more correctly, I was helping Dusty!], with plumbing and shelving! [I now spit on Branko and Big Al!]

We drove to Kamloops yesterday to see close friends, Tina and Trevor, from Adelaide. Simply wonderful to see everyone, if only briefly. Far too, too short, of course, but at least we had a terrific visit while the moments lasted! Enjoyed a delish lunch while we we visited.

Tina will bus, here, to Penticton, in a couple of weeks and would like to join the Monday Boot Hike so that should be fun. Unfortunately, due to time constraints/expense, etc, rest of family won't be able to join her. Holiday is primarily to ski so that is another reason everyone wants to spend as much time on the mountain as possible, for obvious reasons.

Anyway, it was a full, busy, rewarding day. Pretty straightforward drive home as highways were quite clear and only a few whisps of blowing snow/fog but nothing dense or prolonged. Not much traffic either so that made things much easier, of course. Home by just after 7:00 pm. Rosita and Dusty had enjoyed the day so all well on the home front. We had dinner shortly after we unloaded Costco groceries, [We stopped at store in Kamloops, en route to Sun Peaks.], and then played a rubber of bridge.

Dusty and I are just back from Rona where we picked up a load of lumber, material for continuation of shelving inside garage as well as for the steps for the patio. Dusty is simply remarkable. One suggests what one has in mind and he draws a sketch, takes measurements, ponders, re-works sketch, usually with a few additional suggestions and then it's time to take out one's credit card at the lumber yard! Not only that but he uses many of the odd bits and pieces I have "hoarded" for aeons so I'm de-cluttering while renovating!

Again, simply delighted to learn that you will be visiting. Fondestos from Lady Dar, not barking out orders, at the moment, to you both! Cheers, Il Conduttore/Patrizzio.

Pics: First stage of shelving extension. Needed to relocate key cabinet to make room for cork bulletin/picture board. Lunch yesterday. Guest bathroom vanity, installed, by Cora Lee and I, on Tuesday but not leaking, until Wednesday morning, courtesy of Dusty! [I had , grave, grave concerns that I would not outlive this particular project!]

March 15-17 is fine with us. Would be happy to celebrate Jane's birthday with you here. Look forward to it all. Enjoy Victoria, Hugs Corinne

Hi Pat and Corinne, happy new year and belated merry christmas! Sorry for being MIA but just want send you a quick email and let you know things are ok. Just busy with my co-op (working with the Liquor Distribution Branch right now, sorry Pat, I don't get any discounts on scotch or porch/bike chain cleaner) and being in school. I am also doing a practicum with Liisa at her law firm, she's great and it will be an interesting project. Hope you are enjoying the cold in the Okanagan. Will send you a longer email soon, but I know you miss me Pat so just want you to know your boy is alive (for now haha). Saw the Revenant recently and it was a fun ride but the story felt hollow, Star Wars was a mediocre affair to me (maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I dressed up as Chewbacca or Princess Leia...) Take care, VL
